KATHMANDU — Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane and Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah held a late-night meeting on Tuesday that has sparked speculation about future political cooperation, though neither side has disclosed details of their discussion.
The meeting, which lasted nearly six hours, took place at Kamalpokhari in central Kathmandu and was facilitated by Asim Shah, who later described the talks as positive.
In a post on Facebook, Shah said the meeting marked “a positive beginning” and described the interaction between the two leaders as a symbol of renewed hope. He said Lamichhane and Shah left the venue together in the same vehicle after the talks ended around midnight.
Neither Lamichhane nor Shah has made an official public statement on the agenda or outcomes of the meeting. However, political analysts and party sources have suggested the talks may be linked to possible coordination ahead of upcoming elections.
Lamichhane, a former television presenter turned politician, was released on bail last Friday after being held in custody over allegations related to the misuse of cooperative funds. He has since resumed political engagements.
Shah, an independent mayor known for his outspoken style and strong public following, has not formally aligned with any political party.
The meeting has drawn widespread public attention, with supporters interpreting it as a potential shift in Nepal’s evolving political dynamics.
